ISLAMABAD: Shamim Kiyani, the widow of former federal minister Azam Khan Hoti, has overthrown a campaign allegedly orchestrated against her by Humera Bibi, who had claimed rights to the deceased’s assets.
Azam Khan Hoti, father of former KP chief minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti, passed away last year leaving behind his widow Shamim Kiyani.
Humera Bibi, daughter of Chaudhry Mohammad Amin from Swabi, submitted an application with the Interior Ministry on August18th 2016, requesting it to block Shamim Kiyani’s identity card issued by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), pleading that Shamim Kiyani was not the legal wife of Azam Hoti. The Interior Ministry had forwarded the case to NADRA chairman for an investigation.
However, the NADRA on September 20 allowed Shamim Kiyani to retain her identity card, maintaining her as the legal wife of Azam Khan Hoti.
It may be mentioned that Family Court Judge Mubashar Hussain Chisti on October 29, 2015 decreed that Shamim Khan was the legal wife of Azam Khan Hoti while clearly declaring her a legal heir of the late politician.
Humera Bibia had challenged the verdict of the Family Court in the District and Sessions Court Islamabad. However, the court on February 26, 2016 upheld the ruling of the Family Court and rejected both the appeals.
The court had also maintained that Shamim Kiyani was not only the legal wife of Azam Hoti but also a legal heir to Hoti’s assets and ownerships. It was declared that Shamim Kiyani had all the legal and Islamic rights over Hoti’s inheritance.
